Questions:

First of all, this took me FOREVER to figure out how in the heck to upload a document onto my blog. And now that it is uploaded it doesn't fit. Bummer. Does anyone out there know how to make the body of my posts wider??? I know it has something to do with editing the HTML in the Layout tab, but I have no idea how any of that works. There's just so much wasted space on the outsides and I think that's silly. I think I remember Nicole posting about stuff like that a long time ago but I couldn't find that post on her blog. :-(

Anyway, for now you can just click on the blue "fullscreen" link to be able to read my proposal.

  1. hey! i just found your blog not too long ago... and i can help you out with the html!
    2 things you can do:
1- you can go in and change your template to a stretch minima option, and then it'll be pretty wide without messing with the html.
2- if you want to leave your template the way it is, go to:
    --customize
    --edit html tab
***copy your entire html mumble jumble into a word document or something so you have it, in case something gets all messed up
--then scroll down till you see "outer-wrapper"
--under outer-wrapper find where it says "outer-wrapper" again, and change the width to a larger number, like 1500px or 2000px
--then also under the outer-wrapper section you'll find "main-wrapper". this is the section your posts show up in. under main-wrapper change the width number a bigger number, so if it says 300px, change it to like 1000px or 1200px.
--if you want your side bar wider as well, change the next one that says "side-bar wrapper" to a bigger number.
***make sure your main-wrapper width and side-bar wrapper width are equal to or less than what you set your whole outer-wrapper width to be. (equal to is ideal, less than will leave a blank margin on the side) otherwise, they won't both show up on your blog page.
(so, if your outer-wrapper is 1500px, and your main-wrapper is 1200px, then your side-bar wrapper should be 300px)
--then hit save and look at your blog and see if it's wide enough, if not go back and tweek it.

did that make any sense? it's taken me a while to figure html out. this is about all i can do in there. lol. let me know if it doesn't work!
p.s. hopefully your html is the same, i don't think it should vary that much if you have a different template than i do... the outer-wrapper, main-wrapper etc names should be the same...

  2. Macsen. Yep, Lindsey basically covered everything I was going to tell you. Here are some definitions that might help:
blog HTML is basically your instructions and skeleton of your blog. You can basically do anything you want to your blog when you change this. Just be careful with the little symbols and always save your blog before changes are made into a word document. There are a lot of shortcuts that you can do that will make your life a lot easier than messing with the HTML. I highly recommend changing your blog background through inserting a widget instead of changing your HTML.
Outerwrapper: The whole blog from left to right. It includes the mainwrapper and the sidebars
Mainwrapper: Where the text and posts will show up. This is usually in the middle
Sidebar wrapper: The sidebar. It contains different widgets or pictures and small posts that you can create under customize-layout.
My email is nicoleshaw.gneiting@gmail.com! Email me if you have anyother specific questions.
Heads-up. If you want to change your HTML then I would suggest putting your minima because the majority of all free internet instructions are done with this blog set up. And the best website I had that answered all of my questions is tips and tricks under my favorites on my blog. It is amazing.

  3. PS there are a few ways to upload a document. How did you end up doing it? I've been trying to figure out the best way to upload a doc.

  4. I just did a search. first I found something that said I could do it through google docs, but that didn't work. Then I found this place: http://www.blogdoctor.me/2007/11/put-powerpoint-and-pdf-files-in-blog.html
I had to set up a user name and password at scribd.com, but it only took a few minutes. It was really pretty simple, I mean hey! I know basically nothing about blogging and I got it to work! :-)
